Harvard Yard: April 26th-29th During Harvard’s Arts First Festival undergraduate students - new to design and construction - assembled the Plugin House in Harvard Yard in just one day using a single tool. Afterwards the Plugin House was relocated and rebuilt at Boston City Hall. The Plugin House demonstration combined design with arts + culture as an animating force, bringing activity, vibrancy and audience. Shen, through a partnership with Loeb Fellow Eric Williams hosted site-specific installations and events including video installations, DJ sets, art exhibitions and interactive performances in the Plugin House. Williams, drawing on his 20-year experience as founder and creative director of The Silver Room in Chicago, brings together various artists and community organizations to create a week’s worth of public engagements that will amplify and celebrate how a house, inserted into an unlikely site, can act as a place maker.

Boston City Hall: May 4th - 12th

There is a movement among local and municipal governments to introduce policy to encourage the construction of small homes in infill areas or even backyards, efforts meant to address the housing crisis faced by many cities. Partnering with Boston City’s Housing Innovation Lab, the Plugin House in Harvard Yard and Boston City Hall will be the beginning of several demonstrations seeking to draw attention to the need for more creative housing solutions in the Boston metro area while activating these locations with events. In each location, community activities and arts installations will be held at the Plugin House.
